Posted on Sep 11, 2009 - 06:41 PM

Helen Hood has been a tireless advocate for natural Florida for more than three decades. As Chair of Florida Defenders of the Environment’s Endangered Lands Committee, Helen organized the effort to create San Felasco Hammock State Preserve. As a coordinator of the Suwannee River Coalition, she was instrumental in preventing phosphate mining on the Suwannee River. Helen has spent countless hours protecting natural treasures such as River Rise State Park, Little St. George Islands, Cayo Costa, and Tosahatchee State Reserve near Orlando. This photograph of Helen was taken by Bob Simons at San Felasco Hammock.
Helen will be greatly missed.
