WHAT
Students from UF’s Sustainability Studies program will give an introductory overview of a range of soil building techniques that you can use to build healthy gardens and rich earth, without store-bought inputs.

Topics covered include vermiculture, hugelkulture, chicken tractors in gardens, green manure cover cropping, and perennial forest gardens. The class will be held at ACT’s cabin on Tuscawilla Preserve, with hands on opportunities following an initial slide presentation.

DIRECTIONS
From Gainesville on US 441: Go south to the flashing light at the intersection of CR 234 (at “ThePearl”) in Micanopy. Turn right onto NE Cholokka Blvd, which is the main street of downtown Micanopy, and go south all the way through town, a distance of approximately ½ mile. The road swings to the left (easterly), becoming SE Tuscawilla Road (aka SE 165th Avenue or CR 25A). Go a little more than 1/10th of a mile, over a set of speed bumps, and the driveway is a small dirt lane on your right, just past a paved driveway. Take this dirt driveway, which has an open metal gate and a sign “209” straight south about 2/10 of a mile, past two houses on your right, through another gate and over a narrow wooden bridge to the Tuscawilla Cabin.

From Gainesville on I-75: Go south to the Micanopy exit # 374, and turn left, heading east and north on CR 234 towards Micanopy. Turn right into onto NW Seminary Avenue, and head east into historic Micanopy. At Cholokka Blvd, take a right, and almost immediately the street swings to the left (easterly), becoming SE Tuscawilla Road (aka SE 165th Avenue or CR 25A).
