Join us for an informative presentation on documenting local birds utilizing eBird. During this webinar, our guest speaker from Alachua Audubon Society will cover the basics of eBird and provide an overview of the Prairie Creek Banding Lab, a collaborative partnership between ACT and Alachua Audubon Society at Prairie Creek Preserve.
RESOURCES
OUR SPEAKER
Tim Hardin is a Gainesville resident and Santa Fe College student majoring in Wildlife Ecology and aims to transfer to UF upon completion of his degree requirements at Santa Fe. Tim is also a disabled combat veteran, having served on active duty in the US Army for 12 years, with five deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan before being honorably discharged in 2014. Tim’s military awards include a Bronze Star medal for service as a Special Operations soldier in Afghanistan and an Army Commendation Medal award for valor in Iraq during the initial invasion in 2003. Locally, Tim serves on the board of directors of Alachua Audubon Society and he is a member of Veterans for Peace and Alachua County Labor Coalition.
Tim’s love of birds started when he was 7 years old and living in western North Carolina. A treasured pocket Audubon Field Guide with a Blue Jay on the cover given by his parents one Christmas is his earliest birding memory. It wasn’t until a March 2019 trip to Sweetwater Wetland (and an Audubon Wednesday Wetland Walk the next day) that his passion for birds was truly ignited. Tim credits his partner Roxanne for encouraging him to start birding again after he moved to Gainesville from NYC and for supporting his efforts to enjoy all the natural beauty in Alachua County and more. He can usually be found at birding hotspots around Alachua County. Tim especially enjoys Spring and Fall migration and loves the challenge of finding every migrant warbler he can find.
OUR PARTNERS
ACT has partnered with Tall Timbers Research Station and Land Conservancy on implementing their Cornell Lab of Ornithology Land Trust Grant. Our two land trusts, along with Conservation Florida, are also partnering with four Audubon chapters, including Alachua Audubon. The goal of this wide-ranging partnership is to document declining bird species on private and land trust-owned lands, engage private landowners with birding and the use of eBird, and to develop new relationships between land trusts, Audubon chapters, and private landowners.
