Tuscawilla Preserve

Parking Lot Description

Parking for the preserve is located at the Micanopy Native American Heritage Park. The parking lot is a combination of mowed grass and compacted dirt. There is a trash container. Trail users must cross the street to enter Tuscawilla Preserve. There are no restroom facilities at this preserve. There is an informational kiosk with printed maps and a bike rack. The trail system at this preserve is on the edge of a basin marsh which leads to wet and muddy trails, with portions being underwater after heavy rains.

Thrasher Trail (White)

Trail Length: 0.5 miles

Steepest slope: 1%

Total elevation gain: 7 feet

Thrasher Trail is a loop trail that starts at the kiosk. The majority of the trail is mowed grass with a few small depressions and dirt patches. There are several protruding roots that are up to 3 inches tall. The trail has two interpretive signs along the trail.

Halfway through the loop, trail users come to a two-story, observation tower. The tower has a picnic table and interpretive sign underneath it, as well as a picnic table and interpretive sign on top of the tower. The trail is mostly shaded.

Blue Trail

Trail Length: 0.1miles

Steepest slope: 2%

Total elevation gain: 7 feet

This is a short through trail that is mostly firm ground made up of compacted dirt.

Orange Trail

Trail Length: 0.1 miles

Steepest slope: 1%

Total elevation gain: 7 feet

This short trail offers users a quick access to the observation tower. It is firm, compacted, dirt, however, there are several large protruding roots that measure 2-3 inches tall.  It contains an interpretive sign.
