ACT to Open New Community Park in Gainesville

November 13, 2024

Gainesville, Florida - On Friday, November 15, Alachua Conservation Trust (ACT) will open a new community park in the Grove Street Neighborhood of Gainesville. A grand opening ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. Following the ceremony, light refreshments will be served and attendees will be able to tour the park. The general public and press are invited to attend.

Donated by Barbara Esrig, known to her granddaughter as “Bubbe,” the park will be known as Bubbe’s Secret Garden. The small park will serve as a valuable greenspace to area residents both as a community resource and conservation area located in an urban region in Gainesville, Florida.

The park features a native pollinator garden, created in partnership with the Florida Wildflower Foundation’s Bee City initiative, which aims to make communities more habitable particularly for native bees.

“Barbara Esrig has left a lasting legacy with her generous donation. This space not only supports native pollinators and plants, but provides a peaceful haven for local residents to enjoy with friends and family.”
— Tom Kay, ACT Executive Director
